Adult Awards: Good Service

Girl Guides Australia’s Good Service Award category represents all awards for meritorious service and contribution to Guiding in Australia whether the involvement is at a
local, state, national or international level.

It is an opportunity to acknowledge & celebrate the contributions of someone you know.

With the exception of the Boronia Award which can be assessed and awarded locally by a Region Manager, completed nomination forms and supporting information need to be forwarded to our State Award Committee, care of  [email protected].

The Awards Committee currently meet in the fourth week of the month and nominations must be received two months before presentation.
Before completing and submitting an award application have you followed the Good Service Award Checklist?

Published in Girl Guides Australia’s Guide to Nominations for Adult Good Service Awards (November 2017) the checklist asks if you’ve:
  • considered nominating a member for an award as soon as her good service is noted.
  • read the relevant information on Guide Lines, including the criteria for adult awards, to determine if the nominee has given service beyond what is expected of her role.
  • allowed at least 2 months for the application to be processed particularly if you have a special occasion in mind at which the award is to be presented.
  • downloaded (from Guide Lines) and completed each section of an application form carefully and clearly in black/blue ink or typing (all GGA forms are fillable .pdfs), writing N/A if a section is not applicable.
  • provided sufficient information to enable the Awards Committee to reach a decision on the granting of the award. It is important that members of the Awards Committee are able to assess the quality of the service. Please assume the Awards Committee has no prior knowledge of this person.
  • attached any additional information or supporting letters with the nominee’s name on the top so that information concerning the extent of the applicant’s Guiding service can be clearly conveyed to the Awards Committee (bullet points are acceptable). Remember it is the Proposer’s or initiator’s responsibility to co-ordinate collection of necessary paperwork.
  • sought the approval of the Relevant Manager or Chairperson for the nomination and had the Nomination Form signed accordingly.
  • contact your State Awards Chairperson if you require any assistance or visit the Girl Guides Australia website.
