Girl Guides Support Wildlife Recovery

19 March 2020

On Sunday 19 January, Miranda District Girl Guides hosted a Sutherland Shire community event to make wildlife pouches, wraps and nests for wildlife affected by the recent bushfires.

This was an initiative of Teanna and Jess, who are members of Miranda Dolphin Guides.

With help from their mum and a friend, the Wildlife Emergency Response group was established, which mobilised 80 people to sew, knit and crochet these items, which have been sent directly to the 22 licenced rescue groups in NSW and their volunteers.

These pouches, wraps and nests will provide much needed support and supplies to help rehabilitate injured, rescued, displaced and orphaned wildlife.  Miranda Guide hall was a hive of activity — much was achieved in a very short time.

An idea from two young Guides developed into a widely-supported community event.
