Random is in the village of Mount Victoria, in NSW’s picturesque Blue Mountains.
Standing at the head of Kanimbla Valley and with an elevation of more than 1,000 metres, Random boasts panoramic views of Kanangra Walls.
This rare property is owned and managed by Southern Sydney Rivers Region. It offers Guides and others the opportunity to enjoy the mist rolling up the valley in the morning or the red of the sunset through the gum trees to the west.
The original miner’s cottage was built in the early 1900s. It has been restored and is now heritage listed.
Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT purchased the property in 1951, and in 1995 the cottage was renamed Dorothy Lake Cottage after the Guide Leader who instigated its purchase.
A new log cabin known as Random Lodge was built and completed in 1990. This provides a modern facility for use by members of Girl Guides and other interested parties.
